In the early 1960's when formula 2 stock cars were first introduced the cars had to be built in 1948 or before and no more than 1200cc, this was the principle of formula 2 for the first half of the 1960's the shape as the cars changed as can be seen from the following photos.

Early formula 2 stock cars, Ford 8 model y typical of the period no.66 as seen in this photo.

Seen here brothers trevor and pat frost in their early fords fitted with fiat topolino bodies.

This car was built around 1967 on a home made chassis and body still with ford running gear.

Simular to the car above but using a later type bmc engine that came into being in 1966.( the engines in use at this time had to be in production before 1956)

Typical stock cars of 1969 with steel box section chassis and home made bodies.
By 1968 the saloon type stock car or better known as the new formula stock car were being built and raced at that time, by the end of 1968 the formula 2 name had been changed to superstox and still bears the title to this day, by 1969 all the cars were built on the ladder type steel box chassis with pre fabricated indvidualy shaped bodies.
