Wisbech Stadium

(South Brink Stadium)

About March 1970 when spedeworth first looked at the wisbech greyhound stadium with a view to build a stadium for stock-car racing, the track which would be built on the inside of the greyhound track also needed a grandstand, control box and all the fencing constructed along with a concrete surface for the raceway.

The carpark also had to be resurfaced and a boundary fence erected around the site, with the whole stadium in need of a lick of paint spedeworth appealed to any interested stockcar fans, drivers or officials to help so that the whole job would be completed in time for the first meeting just three weeks from the starting date.

The father of John Gray(superstox #546) and john himself both proprietors of Bridge Garage Downham market in 1970 including members of their staff were extremely helpfull in the construction of the stadium, the final tasks being carried out just one hour before the opening meeting that was scheduled for the 23rd May 1970 which hosted the superstox and the new formula stockcars the first of many good meetings at southbrink stadium, the stadium became a firm favorite to drivers and fans alike.
